The Michigan Bluebird Society is very pleased to announce the 13th Annual Spring Bluebird Festival.  This is a day of fun and education with the focus on Eastern Bluebirds and other cavity nesting birds in the state of Michigan.   This event is geared toward any individual, family or group who is interested in learning how to use nest boxes, feeders, plantings and land management to encourage nesting birds such as Bluebirds.  Some of the advantages of attending this informative, fun filled day are:

Speakers on a variety of topics related to Bluebirds, birds, and nature

A Bluebird Expert Panel Discussion - where you can ask and get answers to your most preplexing Bluebird questions

Bluebird Nest Box Building Workshops - take home a nest box to put up in your yard

Educational exhibits on Bluebirds and other native birds

A Bluebird Expo - where you can purchase Bluebird nest boxes, poles, accessories and more.  (All proceeds after costs go directly to help Bluebird 

  conservation in Michigan.)

Talk to experienced Bluebirders one on one

Free informational hand outs

Master Gardeners in attendance will show you how to garden for Bluebirds

6:00 PM - Welcome dinner at Guy Hollerin's Ann Arbor Bar & Grill, 3600 Plymouth Rd, next to the North Campus. SpringBBTheir website is Guy Hollerins Brews & Blues


9:00-10:00 AMRegistration, Meet and Greet, Coffee or tea - Talk to old friends, meet new Bluebirders, have coffee or tea.  Visit the Michigan Bluebird Society Bluebird Expo including exhibitors, kid's activities and informational displays. The Michigan Bluebird Society (MBS) Store will be there and open all day.   

10:00-10:30 AM Annual MBS Business Meeting - Join MBS President Kurt Hagemeister for the Annual MBS Business Meeting.  Learn about MBS, our 2017 projects and achievements, and our plans for 2018.

10:30-10:45 AM - BREAK - Stretch your legs, visit the MBS Store, the Bluebird Expo, Kid's Area, exhibitors and informational displays.  

10:45 AM-11:45 AM - The Bluebird Question and Answer Session - Get the answers to your Bluebird (and other cavity nesting birds) questions.  Join our panel of experts for an informative question and answer session.  Then sit tight - there will be a prize drawing immediately following this session! 11:45 AM-1:00 PM Lunch If you reserved a lunch (cost is $10 - see how to reserve below), join us in the Exposition Hall.  If you did not reserve lunch, there is a food court near by where you can purchase it.  Or just spend your time visiting the MBS Store, the Bluebird Expo and other exhibits. In either case get ready for an afternoon of great presentations which will start promptly at 1:00 PM.

1:00 PM-3:30 PM - Nest Box Building Workshop - Cost is $20 per nest box kit.  Supplies are limited, so interested attendees need to reserve the kits in advance by emailing  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   Fee is payable at the event. ONE nest box per family.

1:00-2:00 PMCreation of A Bluebird Film by Charles St. Charles - Join Charles St. Charles and learn about his groundbreaking work in nature and wildlife documentaries.  Charles will also discuss the one of a kind Bluebird documentary commissioned by the Michigan Bluebird Society.   Sit tight - the second prize drawing will immediately follow this presentation.

2:00-2:15 PM - BREAK - Visit the MBS Store, the Bluebird Expo, Kid's Area, exhibitors and informational displays.

2:15-3:15 PM - Purple Martin Conservation by Penny Briscoe - Join Penny Briscoe for a presentation about Purple Martins.  Learn about their trials and tribulations in Michigan.  Purple Martins are one of Michigan's most popular cavity nesting birds and they are responding positively to thoughtful and careful intervention from people.

3:15-3:30 PM - BREAK - Stretch your legs, visit the MBS Store, the Bluebird Expo, Kid's Area, exhibitors and informational displays.   .

3:30-4:45 PM - Michigan Birds of Prey - Survival at Its Finest by Ms. Francie Krawcke - Join Francie Krawcke from Michigan Avian Experience for a fun and informative presentation on Michigan birds of prey.  Live raptors will be displayed, including a Bald Eagle.

4:45 PM - Adjourn - Before leaving be sure to make one last visit to the MBS Store and exhibitors before they pack up for the night.


Directions to the Morris Lawrence Building

The easiest way to get to the building is to exit US-23 at Geddes Rd. Go east from the roundabout and stay in the right lane.  The first traffic light you come to will be Dixboro Rd.  Turn right (South) and proceed over the Huron River.  When you reach the next light keep going straight.  You’ll immediately see Washtenaw Community College on the right.  The road will now be E. Huron River Drive.  Stay in the right lane and keep going until it bends to the right.  Turn into the drive on the right and you will see the Morris Lawrence Building.  Park either in the lot in front or to the right of the building.

      IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REGISTER FOR THE FESTIVAL.  Lunch is available for $10 (payable at the event).  Please help us plan for food or register to build a nest box by:

Hotel Information

 There are a number of fine hotels within a short drive of the Washtenaw Community College.  The MBS has worked out blocks of rooms at 2 hotels within a 2 mile drive of the meeting:

1.     Ann Arbor Regents Hotel & Suites;  2455 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor (734) 973-6100.  Room rate is $127 plus applicable taxes. There is a free breakfast.  Reservations need to be made by March 2nd.  Use the group code BLUEBIRD when making your reservation.

2.    Holiday Inn – near the U-M North Campus;  3600 Plymouth Rd., Ann Arbor  (734) 769-9800.  Room rate is $98 plus applicable taxes.  No free breakfast, but there is a restaurant on site.  Reservations need to be made by March 9th.  Refer to the Michigan Bluebird Society group when making your reservation.
